Ceasefire At Woolwich
The Royal Artillery has left
its Home at Woolwich
The Home of The Royal Artillery 1716 - 2007
Yes it's true the Royal Regiment has departed Woolwich Barracks for good.
The Barracks have been saved from closure and The Brigade of Guards are moving in.
The RA Band and some elements of the TA will remain at Woolwich.
The RA Recruiting /Display Troop had been stationed at Woolwich for many years, and for many of us
that is where we have our memories of our days with the Troop. It was a sad but proud day for me on the
25th May 2007 when the Regiment said it's farewell to it's Home for 291 years.
The Display Troop and The Flying Gunners have now relocated to Larkhill, the Regiments new HQ.

It's departure from Woolwich, its Regimental home for the past 291 years.
The Regiment's new home will be the Artillery Centre at Larkhill,
near Salisbury, Wiltshire.
During the morning, events were held at the Regimental Museum, Firepower,
on the site of the Woolwich Arsenal. During the afternoon, as well as the
King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery, detachments from all Gunner Regular and
Territorial Army Regiments took part in a Parade at which the Inspecting Officer
was Field Marshal The Lord Vincent of Coleshill, GBE, KCB, DSO.
The Parade included a march past of veterans led by the President of the
Royal Artillery Association, Major- General M. F. L. Shellard, CBE.
The Parade was followed by a Sunset Ceremony at which the salute was
taken by the Master Gunner St James's Park, General Sir Alex Harley, KBE, CB.
A message of loyal greetings was sent on behalf of the Regiment to the Queen,
Captain-General the Royal Regiment of Artillery. In her response,
Her Majesty sent warm good wishes to all members of the Regiment
for a memorable and successful event.
More than 200 years of history draws to a close as the Royal Artillery
